Heavy-duty undercarriage parts selected specifically for demanding road grading, paving, and maintenance operations.
Road building and maintenance represent some of the most demanding environments for heavy earthmoving machinery. From massive highway construction projects to municipal road repairs, track-mounted machinery such as excavators, bulldozers, and asphalt cold planers are the workhorses of infrastructure development. At the heart of these machines is the crawler undercarriage, and specifically, the track link assembly. The track link is responsible for translating the rotational force of the drive sprockets into linear motion, allowing multi-ton machines to navigate uneven, abrasive, and high-impact terrains. Without high-quality track links, the productivity of road-building fleets drops, resulting in expensive project delays and escalating maintenance costs.
The global track link market is experiencing a significant shift driven by rapid urbanization, highway expansion initiatives, and the rehabilitation of aging road networks across both developed and emerging economies. Globally, government investment in smart city infrastructure and trans-continental highway networks has surged. Consequently, the demand for reliable excavator and bulldozer undercarriage parts has reached an all-time high.
From a commercial perspective, contractors are moving away from low-cost, low-durability replacement parts. The market is now dominated by high-performance, heat-treated alloy steel track links that offer a predictable wear life. Manufacturers are adopting advanced forging technologies and induction hardening to meet the rigorous specifications of global OEMs. Modern heavy machinery owners require components that can deliver thousands of hours of trouble-free operation under constant load, paving the way for specialized suppliers who offer OEM-matching quality at competitive factory-direct pricing.
Before any asphalt or concrete is laid, heavy excavators and bulldozers must clear the right-of-way, cut through hillsides, and grade the subgrade. This phase exposes the track links to raw soil, embedded rocks, and abrasive aggregates. The track chain must withstand high impact forces when the machine encounters large boulders, requiring superior structural integrity to prevent cracking or link separation.
Road maintenance often involves milling away damaged asphalt surfaces. Cold planers and recycling machines operate on hard, abrasive asphalt and concrete surfaces. The vibration generated by the milling drum is transmitted directly through the undercarriage. In this scenario, track links must feature precise alignment and high-strength pin-and-bushing joints to absorb continuous high-frequency vibrations without loosening.
Building roads through mountainous terrains requires machines to operate on steep inclines and side slopes. This places immense lateral stress on the track links, track rollers, and guide guards. Standard links can suffer from twisting or uneven wear under these conditions. Reinforced track links with heavy-duty side rails and deep induction hardening are essential to maintain track alignment and prevent de-tracking (throwing a track).
Road maintenance often includes repairing underground utilities beneath the roadway. Excavators operating in confined urban environments perform frequent counter-rotations (turning on the spot). This maneuver generates high torsional stress within the track chain. Lubricated track links (SALT - Sealed and Lubricated Tracks) are highly recommended here, as they reduce internal friction and wear during tight maneuvers, extending the overall life of the undercarriage.
Our factory's main products include: track roller (bottom roller), carrier roller (top roller), sprocket, idler, track link assembly, track shoe, bushing & pin, bucket teeth, and high-strength bolts and nuts.

The engineering behind track links has evolved dramatically to meet the demands of modern infrastructure projects. Historically, standard carbon steels were sufficient for light machinery. However, today's high-tonnage excavators and bulldozers require advanced metallurgy to survive the high-wear environments of modern road works.
High-quality track links are forged from boron-alloyed steel (such as 35MnB or 40Cr). The forging process aligns the grain structure of the metal, providing exceptional tensile strength and fatigue resistance. Following forging, the links undergo precise induction hardening. This heat treatment creates a deep hardened case layer (often 8-12mm deep) on the rail surface where the rollers make contact, while keeping the core of the link ductile to absorb shock loads without fracturing.
One of the most significant advancements in track link design is the introduction of Sealed and Lubricated Track (SALT) systems. In road construction, fine dust from asphalt milling and soil compaction can easily penetrate non-sealed track joints, acting as an abrasive paste that rapidly wears down pins and bushings. SALT chains feature synthetic rubber seals that lock in specialized extreme-pressure lubricants while keeping dirt and abrasive particles out. This technology reduces internal wear to virtually zero, extending the overall track life by up to 50% compared to dry or grease-lubricated chains.
In road construction, project timelines are incredibly tight, and penalties for delays can be severe. Machinery downtime is the single largest threat to contractor profitability. When an undercarriage component fails, the machine must be pulled off the line, halting the grading or paving process.
Investing in premium track links lowers the total cost of ownership (TCO) through several key factors:

As the construction industry moves towards automation, sustainability, and digitalization, undercarriage components are also undergoing a technological revolution. Road construction contractors are demanding smarter components that can integrate with fleet management software to prevent catastrophic failures.
The integration of IoT (Internet of Things) sensors into track rollers and track links is on the horizon. These sensors monitor temperature, vibration, and wear levels in real-time. For road-building contractors managing large fleets across multiple highway sectors, this data allows for predictive maintenance, ensuring parts are replaced during scheduled downtime rather than failing unexpectedly on the job site.
Global environmental regulations are pushing manufacturers to develop greener production methods. This includes transitioning to lead-free steel alloys and reducing energy consumption during the heat treatment process. Quanzhou Hesen Machinery is actively researching eco-friendly forging and quenching technologies to reduce the carbon footprint of undercarriage production without compromising on component strength.
To combat corrosion and abrasive wear in wet road-building environments (such as soil stabilization projects involving lime or cement additives), new coating technologies are being applied to track links. Special thermal spray coatings and zinc-flake finishes are being tested to provide an extra layer of defense against chemical corrosion and abrasive wear, ensuring the track chain remains flexible and structurally sound throughout its service life.
