Precision-engineered plow bolts and fasteners designed for cutting edges, grader blades, and heavy-duty road construction equipment.

A bolt plow — commonly referred to as a plow bolt — is a specialized high-strength fastener featuring a flat, countersunk head designed to sit flush with the surface of wear plates, cutting edges, and grader blades. Unlike conventional hex-head bolts, the flat head of a plow bolt prevents snagging on soil, gravel, and asphalt during earth-moving operations, making it an indispensable component in road building and road maintenance machinery.
In the context of road construction, plow bolts are the critical connection between replaceable wear components — such as cutting edges, end bits, and grader blade segments — and the structural frame of motor graders, bulldozers, scrapers, and road plows. Every time a grader blade cuts through compacted soil or an asphalt overlay, thousands of cycles of vibration, impact, and lateral shear force are transmitted directly through these fasteners. Failure of a single plow bolt can result in catastrophic blade loss, costly equipment downtime, and serious safety hazards on active construction sites.
The global road construction industry is undergoing rapid expansion. According to industry analysis, the global road construction equipment market is projected to surpass USD 28 billion by 2028, driven by infrastructure investment programs across Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America. This growth directly fuels demand for high-quality replacement fasteners, including plow bolts, cutting edge bolts, and grader blade hardware.
The commercial market for plow bolts in road building and maintenance is deeply intertwined with the broader heavy equipment aftermarket. Major OEMs such as Caterpillar, Komatsu, Volvo, John Deere, and CASE all specify proprietary plow bolt standards for their grader and dozer product lines. The aftermarket supply chain — including manufacturers like Quanzhou Hesen Machinery — plays a critical role in providing cost-effective, OEM-compatible replacements that meet or exceed original specifications.
From a commercial standpoint, the plow bolt segment is characterized by:
Next-generation plow bolts are manufactured from medium-carbon alloy steels (40Cr, 42CrMo) with precision quench-and-temper heat treatment, delivering hardness levels of HRC 28–34 and dramatically improved fatigue resistance under cyclic loading typical of road grading operations.
Road maintenance environments expose fasteners to de-icing salts, acidic soils, and moisture. Modern plow bolts increasingly feature zinc-nickel electroplating, Dacromet® coating, or hot-dip galvanizing to provide 500+ hours of salt spray resistance, significantly extending service intervals in harsh climates.
As OEM tolerances tighten, leading manufacturers invest in CNC cold-forging and thread-rolling technology to achieve ±0.05mm dimensional accuracy. This ensures consistent torque values during installation and eliminates the risk of cross-threading or premature loosening on vibrating grader frames.
Contractors demand shorter lead times. Progressive suppliers now maintain bonded warehouses in key logistics hubs, enabling 3–7 day delivery to most global destinations. Digital catalogs with cross-reference tools allow procurement teams to identify the correct plow bolt specification in seconds.
Engineered to withstand extreme tensile, shear, and fatigue loads generated by road graders and bulldozers operating in compacted subgrade and asphalt overlays.
The countersunk flat head sits perfectly flush with the wear plate surface, eliminating snag points that would otherwise cause uneven blade wear and accelerated material loss.
Manufactured to match Caterpillar, Komatsu, Volvo, and other OEM specifications — including 5J4773, 5P8823, and DIN 608 standards — for direct drop-in replacement.
Standardized thread forms and torque specifications enable maintenance crews to replace worn cutting edges and blades quickly in the field, minimizing equipment downtime on active road projects.
Advanced surface treatments ensure reliable performance from -40°C arctic road maintenance to +60°C desert highway construction environments, resisting corrosion from road salts and hydraulic fluids.
Available in full container loads with custom packaging, labeling, and kitting services tailored for distributors, dealers, and large civil infrastructure contractors worldwide.
1. Motor Grader Cutting Edge & Blade Assembly
Motor graders are the workhorses of road construction, responsible for fine grading of subbase layers, shaping road crowns, and maintaining drainage ditches. The cutting edge — a hardened steel blade bolted to the moldboard — experiences continuous abrasion against gravel, rock, and compacted soil. Plow bolts (typically M20–M24, Grade 10.9) secure the cutting edge to the moldboard with the flat head flush against the blade surface. In a typical 6-meter moldboard, 12–18 plow bolts are used, all of which require replacement every time the cutting edge is turned or replaced. For a contractor running 10 graders on a highway project, this can mean hundreds of plow bolts consumed per month.
2. Bulldozer & Dozer Blade End Bits
On bulldozers such as the Caterpillar D6, D8N, and D8R, plow bolts secure both the main cutting edge and the replaceable end bits at either end of the blade. End bits experience the most severe impact loading as they engage with rocks and stumps during land clearing and rough grading. Segment bolts like the Caterpillar 5P7665 with nut 7H3608 are specifically engineered for these high-shock applications, featuring rolled threads and controlled-radius under-head geometry to resist loosening under vibration.
3. Road Plow & Snow Plow Blade Attachment
Municipal road maintenance fleets use dedicated road plows and snow plows for year-round surface maintenance. The plow blade — often a reversible rubber or steel edge — is attached via rows of plow bolts to the plow frame. In winter road maintenance, these bolts are subjected to repeated impact from frozen road surfaces, road debris, and the thermal cycling of freeze-thaw conditions. Corrosion-resistant coatings are particularly critical in this application, where road salt creates an extremely aggressive electrochemical environment.
4. Road Reclaimer & Cold Planer Wear Plates
Full-depth road reclaimers and cold planers use rotating drum assemblies equipped with carbide-tipped cutting tools. The wear protection plates surrounding the drum are secured with plow bolts, which must withstand the combined forces of milling rotation, material impact, and hydraulic vibration. High-tensile plow bolts with locking features — such as prevailing torque nuts or thread-locking compound — are specified to prevent loosening during continuous operation.
5. Scraper Bowl & Ejector Wear Plate Fastening
Elevating scrapers and push-pull scrapers used in earthworks for road subgrade preparation employ hardened wear plates in the bowl and ejector mechanism. Plow bolts with flat countersunk heads are mandatory in these locations to prevent the protruding bolt head from obstructing material flow, which would reduce cycle efficiency and increase fuel consumption.
